Got Layouts?

Thanks everyone for your links and layouts! I think I’ve got everything I need! I have the best readers! Stephanie (August 13, 2012)

I’m preparing a couple of presentations about my research to an audience of sociologists and am looking for images (layouts) for a few topics:

Stigma

  • I’m mainly thinking of a photo of that ever elusive “grandma’s scrapbook,” you know, the one that none of our scrapbooks look like.
  • I’m also open to layouts about stigma more generally or managing a stigma.

Collective Tragedy

  • Do you have a layout about 9/11, the Iraq War, or Hurricane Katrina?
  • I’m also open to layouts about other collective tragedies.

Heritage Albums

  • Specifically, I am looking for layouts that attempt to recreate the time period on the layout by using product that reflects the time period to some degree.

Imperfect Memories

  • Critics argue that scrapbookers only focus on the good and happy in scrapbooks. Do you have a layout that focuses on the sad or bad?

Please send a link to your layout or the actual photo to stephaniemedleyrath at gmail dot com. I will acknowledge you in the presentation. If you have a link to something that is not your own, send that as well and I will attempt to track down permissions.

    I have a series of 9/11 layouts I posted here - http://almostneverclever.wordpress.com/2011/09/11/ten-years-ago/

I actually see the opposite of the stigma you described.  I’d rather be more like grandma’s scrapbook than what is considered “normal” today – i.e. I like focusing on actually using keepsakes and photos and not on paper and feel like people don’t see that when I say I scrapbook.

Great! I snagged one of your 9/11 layouts for my presentation. I really wish I had asked more about “grandma’s scrapbook.” It said as if we all know what it means but what does it really mean? I would say some of my layouts fit but most do not.

Great.  If you need better images, please let me know.

I should frame my reference for Grandmother’s scrapbooks.  I’m thinking of this: http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/img-set/BQcDAAAAAwoDanBnAAAABC5vdXQKFnFQWTF4S1ppM2hHcW9FX0dUUkVYY1EAAAACaWQKAXgAAAAEc2l6ZQ.jpg or something modern such as this http://pinterest.com/pin/197736239859225887/ .  My layouts still fall into a more designed camp than these, but I like to keep those images handy to remind myself it’s about the photos and keepsakes, not the papers and design.

Thanks for the links. I actually like both of those layouts. I think scrapbooking is coming a bit back around to those styles (such as in Project Life or Smash Books). People like the design and product, but people also like stuff done. Now I’m getting ideas for future posts about how scrapbooking styles have changed…
